8th Workshop (17 Dec 2010)

On 17th Dec 2010, EHS Centre had held its 8th workshop titled “Introduction and Application of Chemical Management Database IUCLID 5” in CMA Building. During the workshop, Mr. Yan-kin Lau, manager of Environmental Division, from CMA Industrial Development Foundation Limited (CMA Testing and Laboratories Limited) gave a brief introduction of IUCLID 5 and its role in Registration and Notification under REACH regulation. Mr. Lam-lung Yeung, the Adjunct Associate Professor from Department of Chemistry in HKUST, had demonstrated the basic technique of IUCLID 5 while Mr. Siu-on Yeung, Technical Consultant of EHS Centre, had demonstrated the technical dossier generation and submission to ECHA. In addition, we had prepared a CD with the IUCLID 5 software and user manual for the participants use.

7th Seminar (17 Sept 2010)
On 17th Sept 2010, EHS Centre had held its 7th seminar titled “REACH Registration and Audit Seminar” in CMA Building and 117 participants were invited. During the seminar, Mr. Yan-kin Lau, our manager of Environmental Division, from CMA Industrial Development Foundation Limited (CMA Testing and Laboratories Limited) shared the updates of REACH Regulations and a summary of our project progress. Mr. Lam-lung Yeung, the Adjunct Associate Professor from Department of Chemistry in HKUST, had described how to use (Q)SAR to process data required for substance registration and meanwhile, lowering the cost of generating data. Mr. Kwok-to Ting, Senior Manager of HKQAA, had introduced the important issues of REACH audit approach. In addition, we had invited two experts, Dr. Matteo Dalle Valle and Mr. Jonathan Lutywche, from REACH Centre, UK to HK and share their views of the registration process, data submission, and SVHCs notification/communication.

6th Seminar (25 June 2010)
On 25th June, 2010, EHS centre held a seminar titled “REACH Regulatory Updates and Chemical Safety Management Sharing” in CMA Building, Central. This seminar had invited total 140 participants from different industries. Senior Advisor of EHS Centre, Mr. Yeung Siu On introduced the summary of TID supported project “Implementation and Support Programme to deal with the EU regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)”. Followed by Mr. Lau Yan Kin, manager of Environmental Division, from CMA Industrial Development Foundation Limited (CMA Testing and Laboratories Limited) shared the updates of REACH regulation, the most recently added 8 SVHCs in the candidates list and introduction of SIEF. Mr. Sam Tung, Safety & Environmental Specialist of HKUST has talked about the Chemical Safety Management and the recent EU regulation on Classification, labeling and Packaging of substances and mixtures.

Next Step in REACH 2009 - International Conference
On March 25, 2009, EHS Centre had held an International Conference on topic of “Next Step in REACH 2009” in Hong Kong Productivity Council. In the International Conference, there were 300s participants attended the conference and received an overwhelming response. At the beginning, EHS Centre were honoured to invite Miss Vivian Lau, the Deputy Director-General of Trade and Industry and Mr. Kwok Chun Wah, MH, JP, Chairman of Committee on Sustainable Development of Chinese Manufactures’ Association (CMA) to join the opening of conference and had delivered an opening and welcome speech for us. Through the conference, Mr. YK Lau, REACH Team Principal Consultant had introduced REACH Project and the future development of EHS Centre. Furthermore, participant got to know the hot topic – “EU regulation: REACH – After the pre-registration”, whether it is a start of REACH or the end of REACH. ECHA representative (Ms. Eva Sandberg, Senior Scientific Officer, International relations, ECHA) had conduct a phone seminar to present what next on REACH and Mr. Tim Jessel, the Director of Business Development, UK Chemical Industries Association (CIA), had presented the solution of REACH in UK industries. Furthermore, Mr. KM Shea, Principal Consultant of Agility Consultants Company had introduced the Chemical Management System (CMS) for the participants.

5th Seminar (24 Noverber 2008)

EHS Center held their 5th Seminar on 24 November 2008. In this section, there are 160 participants attend the seminar. Through this seminar, participants got to know the updated news on Pre-registration process, especially the last minute method on how to pre-registry and the latest ECHA updated information. Moreover, the searching of chemical information and various of chemical databases were also introduced to participants. Lastly, Mr. KM Shea, Agility Consultant, had presented the Chemicals Management System, which has implemented to 3 EHS case studies to the participants.

4th Seminar (19 August 2008)

EHS Center held their 4th Seminar on 19 August 2008. In this section, there are 110 participants attend the seminar. Through this seminar, participants got to understand the REACH regulation, especially the Guidance on Requirements for Substances in Articles (formally named RIP 3.8) and know the latest ECHA updated information. Moreover, the classification of dangerous substances under REACH and how to control of these dangerous substances was also presented to participants. Lastly, EHS has report their survey result and 2 of the speakers, Mr. Lau and Mr. Ting had shared their experiences in ECHA seminars while they are in Europe. 

3rd Seminar (15 May 2008)

EHS Center held their 3rd Seminar on May 15 2008. In this section, EHS received 200 companies signed up for this seminar. However, due to limited seats, only 160 participants could attend the seminar. Through this seminar, participants got to understand the REACH regulation, and know the latest ECHA updated information regarding to the REACH Implementation Project 3.1 and 3.4. They were the Guidance on Registration and Guidance on Data sharing (Pre-registration) respectively. Beside the Guidance, the up-to-date information about the software update for online (pre) registration submission, and IUCLID 5 on 27th March, 2008 was given in the seminar. Moreover, in order for the non-EU Manufacturers and Importers to avoid taking subsequent hazard and risk communication responsibility, information regarding to appoint an “Only Representative” was also introduced.  The “Only Representative” will be responsible for the supplies of specific substances into Europe. Lastly, common dangerous substances in different industries are also introduced to the participants in order for them to understand and be prepared for the REACH regulation.

2nd Seminar

On 22 Jan 2008, EHS centre held the 2nd seminar in CMA Building, Central. There were totally 30 representatives from different companies attended the seminar. In this seminar, Roy Yeung, (EHS - Technical Specialist) introduced the information of REACH including the basic elements of REACH – Registration, Notification and Authorization, and the up-to-date information of REACH Implementation Project (RIP). Furthermore, Safety Data Sheet and Chemical Safety Report were introduced by Sam Tung, (HKUST – Assistant Health and Safety Officer) to the participants for their preparation to step into the European market. Lastly, Dr. Terry Hung (CMA – Specialist, Environmental Division) shared some of the case studies with the participants which they would face in the near future when dealing with the REACH regulation.
